Tips for Staying Active While at Home

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed all of our daily lives. You might be adjusting to a work from home routine, recently lost your job, sick or caring for someone who is ill. Exercise and staying active are incredibly important for your health and wellbeing. If you are still adjusting to a new routine during social distancing, we’ve got a few tips to help you keep active!

1. Set a new routine

Most of us have found that old routines have completely changed over the last few weeks as social distancing has become so important for our safety. Setting up a new daily routine can help you feel more settled and prepared for the day ahead. It’s a great time to try new things and see what works for you, perhaps your afternoon workout can be done on your patio in the cool morning breeze? Remembering to stay active while at home is very important, try implementing yoga into your daily routine for a relaxing way to get in some exercise and take care of your wellbeing.

2. Take a break from sitting

It can be more difficult to remember to take breaks from sitting on the couch or in front of the computer when distancing at home. Take the time to go for a quick walk around the house and incorporate some stretching in your routine to help boost your daily activity and reduce the risk of muscles tension. Physical Therapist David Nolan suggests it is best to stretch after 5-10 minutes of light activity such as walking to warm up the muscles and prevent injury.

3. Set goals

To help keep you accountable, set small and achievable goals to motivate you to keep active. Did you know Wanngi allows you to set and track goals and activity? Take a look here! Take a look at your daily steps while at home and try and increase this number by 100 steps. Even though it may seem small, every bit of activity goes a long way to improving your health and wellbeing!
